Test drive turns into a car theft

A customer at an Evanston car dealership took a car out for a spin, but never returned. This among stories in today’s daily crime bulletin from Evanston police.

Theft

1000 Chicago

A customer at the Autobarn Volkswagen of Evanston took a 2020 Volkswagen out for a test drive at about 1:40 p.m. yesterday and never returned .The company reported it to police as a stolen vehicle.

1600 Sherman

Miscellaneous merchandise was taken from a store in the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue between 5:28 p.m. Wednesday and 2 p.m. yesterday.

Burglary

900 Gaffield

A burglar entered an apartment in the 900 block of Gaffield Place through an unlocked window between 6 a.m. Tuesday and 7:44 p.m. yesterday and took a bag with contents.

1800 Church

A burglar broke a window to enter a vehicle at a business parking lot in the 1800 block of Church Street around 9 a.m. yesterday.

710 Ridge

Mansfield Lavon Wallace, 48, of 605 Case St., was arrested at 710 Ridge Ave. at 8:19 p.m. yesterday and was charged with burglary.

Criminal Damage

1037 Dodge

Vanisha T. Roberts, 38, of 1037 Dodge Ave., was arrested at that address at 4:46 a.m. Wednesday and charged with criminal damage to property.

Other

1600 Dodge

Andre Frazier, 55, of 2155 S. Tonne Drive, Arlington Heights, was arrested at 1600 Dodge Ave. at 11:30 p.m. yesterday and charged with violating the public urination ordinance.

Traffic

1716 Payne

Sheldon R. Mack, 59, of  6150 N. Winthrop Ave., Chicago, was arrested at 1716 Payne St. at 2:37 p.m. Wednesday and charged with a traffic violation.

Howard at Asbury

Sonny L. McCaskel, 51, of 752 E. 79th St., Chicago, was arrested at Howard Street and Asbury Avenue at 9:27 p.m. yesterday and charged with a traffic violation.

1015 Howard

Catalina M. Renteria, 48, of  1919 Howard St., was arrested at 1015 Howard St. at 1:41 p.m. Wednesday and charged with a traffic violation.

2020 Pratt

Timothy C. Schmidt, 62, of 4151 Williamsberg Court, Glenview, was arrested at 2020 Pratt Court at 2:25 p.m. yesterday and charged with driving under the influence.

Incidents listed appear among the official reports of the Evanston Police Department. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt, which can only be determined by a court of law. Court appearances take place in Cook County 2nd District Circuit Court in Skokie.
