Here's a look at a 1727 Oak rendering

A preliminary rendering of the proposed 1727 Oak Ave. development

Evanston city staff this morning provided a preliminary rendering of the planned 17-story active adult building planned for 1727 Oak Ave.

A neighborhood meeting to discuss the project is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in Room G300 at the Civic Center.

The site currently is used as a parking lot for the office building at 1007 Church St.

The existing parking lot on the site.

The project is being proposed by the Dallas-based Trammell Crow Company, a national firm that has its midwest office in Chicago.

The property is located in the D3 Downtown Core zoning district, which under certain conditionss would permit a building height of up to 220 feet.

Where will going to 1007 Church park now?

So if they get to build this, where are people going to 1007 Church and others that use that lot supposed to park? And are these rental apartments again? How are they defining "active adult"? Does "active adult" mean seniors? And if so, why would they want to rent vs. buy?

Meh. Blah. Ugh.

Folks won’t move to downtown Evanston for the architecture, that’s for sure.

Dishonest rendering

Just wanted to point out this "rendering" is a bit dishonest. The condos directly across the street are 7-8 stories and this rendering seems to put the 17 story building about on par with them. The office building next door is also about 8-9 stories and again the pictures looks to have them about the same height. I realize maybe this is not a big deal but you have to assume this was intentional in hopes nobody noticed with all the debate about building height and downtown aesthetics.

New building at 1727 Oak

I think the plan is very attractive and would appeal to me if I were looking for a rental in Evanston.  Please insist that ALL the affordable apartments be built as required, not paid off.  And I suggest that a glass dome be added to the rooftop swimming pool.  In this climate and with the amount of wind we have it would make a daily dip delightful.
