Evanston Township High School's boys soccer team -- the number 1 seed in its sectional -- began its post-season run with a 6-0 win over Taft Wednesday night at Maine South.
The boys compete for the regional championship against Maine East Saturday at Maine South at 3 p.m.
Admission is $4. A victory earns the Wildkits the right to play back home at Lazier Field next Tuesday in the IHSA Sectional Semifinal at 4:30 p.m. Sectional Championships are at ETHS on Sat, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. Admission for sectional soccer is $5 for all spectators.
Girls Volleyball’s first serve of the playoffs takes place in Beardsley Gym Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., right after soccer’s sectional game. The girls will be playing the winner of the Taft/Amundsen play-in game.
The Regional Championship is Thursday, Oct. 27, at 6 p.m. The girls volleyball team earned the #2 sectional seed. Admission for regional volleyball is $4 for all spectators.
Football is still very much in the playoff picture. A win over the Wolves at Niles West Friday night at 7 p.m. would give the Kits a regular season record of 5-4. Thanks to their strength of schedule, this would most certainly qualify them to compete in the state playoffs for the 2nd straight year.
Boys and girls cross country compete at the IHSA Regional at Harms Woods Saturday. The girls race begins at 2 p.m. and the gun goes off for the boys at 2:45 p.m. The top seven teams from each race will advance to the sectional at Niles West on Saturday, Oct. 29.
While state is still a long way off for girls swimming, the girls do enjoy a rare two-day home stand at the Burton Aquatic Center at 5:30 p.m. Friday against Niles West and at 1 p.m. Saturday against Rockford Guilford for Senior Day.
Sophomore golfer Jackson Mihevc shot solid rounds of 84 and 83 last weekend to finish in the top half of the individual qualifiers in the 112-player field at the IHSA State Finals in Bloomington. The vast majority of the varsity boys golf team, which was one spot short of qualifying as a team for the first time since 1960, returns next year.
