In 90-degree heat at historic Sanford Stadium, the Evanston Wildkit varsity squad never trailed and defeated TC Williams of Virginia 8-2 in the Kits first game on their Florida spring trip.

At the former spring training home of the New York Giants and site of Jackie Robinson’s first game with a major league team, Evanston scored two runs in the top of the first led by Alex Vergara’s lead-off triple.

Vergara was two for three on the day. TC Williams, of “Remember the Titans” fame, scored two runs in the fifth to close the game to 5-2, but they stranded the bases loaded in the sixth and did not score another run.  Evanston scored three insurance runs in the seventh lead by Connor Hackett’s three-run single.

On the mound, hurler Max Siedlecki once again had a strong outing.  Max pitched five innings giving up no earned runs with only one walk.  He is now 3-0 on the year with three quality starts. Jack Anderson closed the last two innings for the save.

Evanston (6-4) plays again tomorrow against a team from the Virgin Islands.
