Downtown Farmers Market opens May 6

One sure sign that winter is behind us is the opening of Evanston’s downtown farmers market, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 6.

Located behind the 1800 Maple Self Park Garage at University Place and Oak Avenue, the market’s 42d season will feature fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, flowers, cheese, milk, eggs and bakery items, sold by nearly 60 vendors from Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan.

What’s more, parking is free in the adjacent city garage with ticket validation at the City of Evanston tent. LINK cards are accepted as well.

The market will be held every Saturday through Nov. 4 from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Except for service animals, dogs, cats, birds, gerbils, snakes, and other pets are not welcome at the market.

Children ages 2 to 12 years can receive free membership to the market’s Spud Club tent and enjoy a variety of farm-related activities throughout the season. The Spud Club is open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and is located in the southwest corner of the market.

More information about the market, including a list of vendors, is available on the city’s website.
