Street sweeping and yard waste pickup operations resume in Evanston next week.

Signs on streets show when parking is prohibited for street sweeping. A full schedule can be found online.

Raking debris into the streets is illegal. Violators will be fined. Illegally parked cars in street sweeping areas may be ticketed and in some cases towed.

New this year — text message alerts to remind residents the day before their streets are swept. You can signup online starting April 2.

Weekly yard waste pickups also resume Monday, April 2. Pickups will occur on the same day that other trash is collected in each neighborhood.

Under state law yard waste must be collected separately from other household waste.

Residents may:

  • Place yard waste in paper yard waste bags, such as 30-gallon. kraft paper lawn waste bags, available at local stores and the city collector’s office. A yard waste sticker must be purchased and affixed to each lawn waste paper bag. Plastic bags will not be collected.
  • Compost and mulch to recycle the earth’s nutrients. For more information, call the Ecology Center, 847-448-8256.
  • Fill a city 90-gallon yard waste cart, available for purchase. These reusable carts do not require the use of bags or stickers.  Carts cost $82.50. An order form is available online (.pdf).

Special pick-up fees for yard waste collection will be assessed after 48 hours for bags without stickers.
