Evanston police and District 65 school officials say they are investigating a report that a school employee assaulted a male student at the school on Tuesday.

Police Cmdr. Ryan Glew said the incident was reported to the department today and that detectives have begun to investigate it.

School Superintendent Paul Goren says the employee has been placed on leave while the school district conducts its own investigation.

The child’s mother says the employee, who is not a classroom teacher, grabbed and pushed the child and told him to sit down. She says there is a video that confirms the child’s account of what happened.

The reported incident at Haven follows one last Friday on a bus taking students home from Orrington Elementary School. The driver of that bus now has been charged with misdemeanor battery.
