Summer ends with a rash of bike thefts

The last days of summer were busy for bike thieves, as 10 were reported stolen, including three from a garage on Hovland Court. These among the stories in today’s daily crime bulletin from Evanston police.

Theft

1800 Hovland

Three bicycles were stolen from the garage of a home in the 1800 block of Hovland Court between 7 p.m. on Sept. 14 and 7 a.m. on Sept. 16.

Chicago at Washington

A bicycle locked to a bike rack at Chicago Avenue and Washington Street was stolen around 6:35 p.m. Saturday.

Dodge at Church

A bicycle locked to a bike rack at Dodge Avenue and Church Street was stolen between 10 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.

800 Chicago

A bicycle locked to a bike rack in the 800 block of Chicago Avenue was stolen between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday.

1600 Washington

A bicycle was stolen from an apartment common area in the 1600 block of Washington Street between 8:55 a.m. and noon yesterday.

600 Lake

A bicycle locked in an apartment common area in the 600 block of Lake Street was stolen between noon Tuesday and 10 a.m. Thursday.

1000 Garnett

A bicycle locked in an apartment common area in the 1000 block of Garnett Place was stolen sometime Friday.

1600 Sherman

A bicycle locked to a bike rack in the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue was stolen around 7:10 p.m. Saturday.

2400 Howard

A theft of merchandise was reported at a grocery store in the 2400 block of Howard Street at 11:13 a.m. yesterday.

700 Ridge

A wallet left in a Lyft vehicle was stolen between 9:57 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday.

600 Chicago

Hygeine products were stolen from a pharmacy in the 600 block of Chicago Avenue at about 5:05 p.m. Saturday.

800 Davis

A registration sticker was removed from a vehicle while it was parked in a general use parking lot in the 800 block of Davis Street between noon Thursday and 10:57 p.m. Friday.

1400 Darrow

A lawn mower left unattended in the yard of a home in the 1400 block of Darrow Avenue was stolen between noon on Sept. 2 and noon on Sept. 5.

2700 Green Bay

A wallet was removed from a purse at a grocery store in the 2700 block of Green Bay Road at 10:25 a.m. Saturday.

1700 Sherman

Clothing items were taken from a retail establishment in the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue at 7:01 p.m. Friday.

Cosmetics were stolen from a pharmacy in the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue at 12:14 p.m. Saturday.

2100 Green Bay

Merchandise was taken from a convenience store in the 2100 block of Green Bay Road at 9:55 p.m. Friday.

800 Dobson

A cell phone that had been delivered to an apartment common area in the 800 block of Dobson Street was stolen between 12:28 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Sept. 11.

2200 Oakton

The front license plate of a 2008 GMC vehicle was taken while parked in a business parking lot in the 2200 block of Oakton Street between 10:15 p.m. and 10:22 p.m. yesterday.

Battery

1454 Elmwood

Eldridge Davis, 53, of 1581 Dewey Ave., was arrested at Evanston police headquarters at 3:48 p.m. Tuesday and charged with domestic battery.

901 Maple

Marcus S. Franklin, 29, of 901 Maple Ave., was arrested at that address at 9:52 p.m. Saturday and charged with battery. He is due in court on Oct. 17 at 9 a.m.

Burglary

313 Custer

DeWayne Lee Howard, 51, address unknown, was arrested at 313 Custer Ave. at 1:45 p.m. on Sept. 9 and charged with burglary.

Criminal Damage

500 Michigan

A 2007 Audi sustained chassis damage in an apartment parking space in the 500 block of Michigan Avenue between 9 p.m. Friday and 3:15 p.m. Saturday.

800 Sherman

A 2005 Chevrolet sustained scratches in an apartment parking space in the 800 block of Sherman Avenue between 2 a.m. and 1:26 p.m. yesterday.

1600 Benson

Glass was broken on a door on Chicago Transit Authority property in the 1600 block of Benson Avenue between 2:15 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. yesterday.

2100 Darrow

A vehicle sustained a flattened tire in the 2100 block of Darrow Avenue around 11:06 a.m. Saturday.

Criminal Trespass

1111 Chicago

Anthony A. Richardson, 42, of 9740 S. Yale Ave., Chicago, was arrested at 1111 Chicago Ave. at 11:42 a.m. Saturday and charged with criminal trespass on real property. He is due in court on Oct. 17 at 9 a.m.

Drugs

7200 Western

Kevin F. Grant, 34, of 931 Covey, Coal City, was arrested at 7200 N. Western Ave., Chicago, at 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Other

1800 Hartrey

Jamere M. Gregory, 30, of 1803 Hartrey Ave., was arrested at 1800 Hartrey Ave. at 2:20 a.m. Saturday and charged with a noise ordinance violation. He is due in court on Oct. 24 at 9 a.m.

Church at Fowler

Malik Lindsey Jenkins, 20, of 2308 Foster St., was arrested at Church Street and Fowler Avenue at 11:57 p.m. Friday and charged with disorderly conduct. He is due in court on Oct. 24 at 9 a.m.

827 Greenleaf

Lambert C. Sayles, 21, of 2325 Lee St., was arrested at 827 Greenleaf St. at 8:23 p.m. Thursday and charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

332 Custer

Jerell D. Williams, 28, of 1528 W. Morris Ave., Chicago, was arrested at 332 Custer Ave. at 3:45 a.m. yesterday and charged with resisting or obstructing an officer. He is due in court on Oct. 17 at 9 a.m.

Shots Heard

1300 Oak

Gunshots were reported in the 1300 block of Oak Avenue at 7:05 p.m. Friday. Police checked the area but found nothing.

An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt, which can only be determined by a court of law. Court appearances take place in Cook County 2nd District Circuit Court in Skokie.
