What’s in the name? “38 degrees is the temperature of the yogurt in the machine,” say owners Mike Seperghan and Roma Nazarians.

The owners have created a shop that resembles a modern, frozen yogurt tundra, with the “icy” decor, “metallic” designs, and flat screen televisions adorning the walls. There’s plenty of room for students to lounge around and free wireless internet is available.

Seperghan and Nazarians say the shop has been in the planning for the last year and a half.

“This is our first frozen yogurt venture, but we’ve done a lot of research,” said Nazarians, trying to target the shop to “people care about their health and are educated.”

The store provides fat burning frozen yogurt with chromium picolinate as an ingredient. The owners say this natural mineral increases the efficiency of insulin and enhances weight loss, supports mood stability, promotes energy and speeds up a person’s metabolism.

Some frozen yogurt contains Inulin , a natural fiber produced by plants. This ingredient contains 10 percent of the sweetness of regular sugar and has a minimal impact a person’s blood sugar.

Nazarians says frozen yogurt has probiotics and a high level of antioxidants. 38 Degrees plans to use all natural sugar which has a low glycemic index.

Frozen yogurt flavors available this summer include honeydew, dark chocolate, strawberry, mango and vanilla. Customers may also choose from a variety of fruit and dry toppings.

Seperghan recommends the honeydew mango twist to customers, because it’s “scary addicting.”

38 Degrees, located at at 940 Church St., also offers frozen yogurt smoothies and parfaits. This fall, coffee beverages will also be available.
