A sports utility vehicle heading eastbound on Dempster Street in Evanston went off the road in front of Panino’s Restaurant shortly before 3 p.m. today.
The car knocked over a traffic signal and a tree in front of the restaurant before coming to rest just short of the entrance to the Dempster Plaza shopping center.
There was no immediate word on the cause of the accident. Fire Division Chief Dwight Hohl says no one was injured in the crash.
Unsafe Driving Speeds
There have been a number of accidents in Evanston in recent months that are indicative of the high level of speed passers-through think is appropriate. Our speed limits are roundly ignored by huge swaths of drivers. Fellow Evanstonian, let's make safety a priority by obeying the limits which are posted for good reason in our highly populated city. While we all like to sleep in a little later each morning, leaving our homes as little as 10 minutes earlier would allow us to follow posted speed limits as we commute to our destinations in a more relaxed, safe manner. Being a bit more relaxed will lower your stress level and improve your overall health…. And remember, when you drive the posted limit, the folks behind you do too. 🙂
