For the first time in 16 years, Northwestern University’s annual Take Our Daughters to Work Day observance will admit boys. "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day" will take place Thursday, April 22.

As always, the yearly observance will feature a smorgasbord of career-related activities and workshops for the children, relatives and friends of Northwestern faculty and staff. This year’s theme is "1 Youth, 1 Dream, 2Morrow’s Leader."

More than 350 girls and boys, aged 8 to 16, are expected to attend Northwestern’s celebration of the Ms. Foundation-sponsored national public education program. At Northwestern, the day will focus largely on science, mathematics, computer science and technology career options.

Volunteers are needed to plan and host workshops, chaperone group tours and assist with check-in and lunchtime activities, including a raffle. At least 36 chaperones on the Evanston campus are needed. To volunteer, contact Njoki Kamau at (847) 491-2734 or ngk@northwestern.edu by April 14.

Participants will learn about the varied career options open to young women and men, and will for the first time take part in a panel-style quiz, called "Guess Who?" Five employees of Northwestern University will provide information about their respective careers and the young participants will figure out what they do at the University.

Staff and faculty members who plan to sponsor a child are asked to complete a registration form for either the Chicago or Evanston campus. Registration forms and tour information will be available soon on the Women’s Center website.

The deadline for payments of $12 per sponsor plus $12 per child, in the form of a personal check or money order made payable to Northwestern University, is due to the Women’s Center no later than April 16.

On April 22, check-in for people who have pre-registered in Evanston will be held from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion and Norris Aquatics Center, 2311 Campus Drive.
