Target will begin hiring about 70 team members for its Evanston small-format store at 1616 Sherman Ave. with job fairs on Jan. 18-20.

The store, expected to open in March, will be the company’s 85th in the Chicago area.

Target recently has prioritized opening small-format stores near college campuses and in dense suburban neighborhoods and urban areas with assortments that are tailored to meet the needs of nearby customers.

Krysanna Bowery, team leader for the store, says, “We are building a talented team to serve the students and residents of Evanston. Whether guests are stopping in to choose some of our grab-and-go food items and fresh produce or students are outfitting their dorms and apartments, this store in the heart of Evanston will will offer a customized shopping experience for the community.”

Target says it provides team members with meaningful opportunities to build and develop skills for their careers. In October, Target announced plans to raise its minimum hourly wage for all team members to $11, along with a commitment to increasing the minimum hourly wage to $15 by the end of 2020, a move the company says will help it continue to recruit and retain strong team members and provide an elevated experience for customers.

Store leaders will conduct pre-scheduled interviews with applicants. Interested candidates can visit Target.com/careers to apply in advance as well as in-person on the day of a job fair.
