A seminar for Evanston homeowners on how to appeal property tax assessments will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at the Evanston Public Library.

The period for residents to appeal their 2013 assessments to the county board of review runs from Aug. 6 through Sept. 3.

Appeals may be filed in person at the Skokie Courthouse Office of the Board of Review at 5600 Old Orchard Road, Room 155, or online.

Cook County Commissioner Suffredin, Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Michael Cabonargi, State Senators Daniel Biss and Heather Steans, State Representatives Robyn Gabel, Laura Fine and Kelly Cassidy, and Evanston Assessor Bonnie Wilson will host the seminar at the library.

Evanston properties were reassessed this year and many homeowners’ assessments were increased. To keep assessments as low as possible, homeowners must appeal.

Homeowners can also contact Commissioner Suffredin’s office at 847-864-1209 for additional information or to schedule an appointment for assistance.
