Tax assessment notices hit the mail

Property tax assessment notices for Evanston homeowners are going in the mail today.

The County Assessor's office says the notices — which will likely show up in mailboxes Saturday or Monday — will have a new look, with information about prices similar properties sold for recently in the neighborhood.

Homeowners will have until June 13 to file an appeal. Taxpayers can either hire a private attorney, or ask either the county or township assessors' offices to prepare an appeal for them.

The Evanston Township Assessor's office is at 1910 Main St., phone 847-332-2465. The nearest branch of the county assessor's office is in Room 149 at the Skokie courthouse, 5600 W. Old Orchard Rd., phone 847-470-7237.
