Northwestern University police say a student was robbed of his cell phone while standing on the porch of his apartment in the 2000 block of Ridge Avenue in Evanston early this morning.

The victim told police that he was standing on the porch about 1:20 a.m. when one of four male teenagers walking by on the sidewalk asked him for directions.

The student pulled out his smart phone to help. One of the teens walked up on the porch to look at the phone, grabbed it, and then fled with the others westbound on Leon Place.

The student called police and officers searched the area but were unable to locate the teens — who the victim described as all being 16 or 17 years old and between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-10-inches tall.
