Evanston police say the juvenile who was arrested in a two-flat at 1802 Lake St. after a shots-fired incident Wednesday afternoon now has been petitioned to juvenile court on five felony charges.

The 16-year-old Evanston resident faces charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a street gang member, unlawful possession of a firearm by someone under 18, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and reckless conduct.

He is currently in custody at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center.

Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says charges are still pending against the adult male arrested in the same incident — which he says began when officers on patrol heard shots fired in the 1500-block of Darrow Avenue and saw the alleged shooters run into the building nearby at 1802 Lake and hide there.

Police surrounded the building and over the period of an hour or so persuaded all of the residents to come out — including the two who were taken into custody in connection with the shots-fired incident.

No one was struck by the bullets fired in during the incident, which happened a block east of Evanston Township High School.
