2013 was another year of growth for Evanston Now, thanks to the increasing number of Evanstonians who rely on the site for news.

For the year as a whole, our average monthly unique visitor count now tops 30,000 and monthly pageviews average more than 180,000.

That’s an increase of 25 percent in visitors and 23 percent in page views over 2012.

With a heavy load of breaking news stories, December was especially strong — with nearly 57,000 unique visitors to the site. (All those numbers, by the way, are from Google Analytics.)

2013 was another challenging year in the news business, nationally and locally. But while other local news sources are in decline, we’ve been able to expand our coverage, adding more freelance writers to our team and increasing the breadth and depth of our news coverage.

In addition to our readers, a special thanks to our advertisers — and to the readers who’ve become voluntary subscribers to the site. Their financial support is what makes it possible for Evanston Now to keep bringing you the news.

Bill Smith is the editor and publisher of Evanston Now.
