The Northwestern men’s basketball team hosts hosts Akron at 8 p.m. tonight in the first round of the NIT.
The wrestling and women’s swimming squads have representatives competing at the NCAA championships while the lacrosse, softball and baseball teams all are in the midst of their regular season schedules.
With temperatures in the Evanston area projected in the high-60’s, Saturday could be a perfect day to watch the women’s lacrosse team take on Massachusetts at noon at Lakeside Field.
Men’s Basketball
Coach Carmody and the men’s basketball program are picking up the tab for Northwestern undergraduate students who will be admitted free to tonight’s game with a valid WildCard. General public tickets are $20 and can be ordered by visiting NUsports.com or by calling 888-GO-PURPLE.
In addition, ANY student with a valid student ID will be able to purchase tickets for $5.
Wrestling
Northwestern wrestling concludes the 2011-12 season at the NCAA championships in St. Louis, Mo. NU sends a contingent of six wrestlers with a variety of NCAA experience to the Scottrade Center Thursday through Saturday as three are returning qualifiers and three are competing in their first NCAA championships. Fans can watch all six sessions LIVE on ESPN3.com, Sessions 3-5 on ESPNU and the finals, Session 6, live on ESPN.
Women’s Swimming
Two Wildcat swimmers will compete at the 2012 NCAA Championships starting Thursday in Auburn, Ala., combining to represent Northwestern in four separate events. Senior Jenny Wilson (Bethesda, Md./Sidwell Friends School) qualified as the 17th seed in the 100 breast and the 19th seed in the 200 breast while junior Taylor Reynolds (St. Louis, Mo./Webster) is in as the 24th seed in the 50 free and the 43rd seed in the 100 free. The trip is the first to the NCAA Championships for both swimmers.
Women’s Lacrosse
Top-ranked Northwestern is off to a 6-0 start in 2012, winning its first six outings by an average margin of 9.3 goals per game. On Saturday, the Wildcats play the second of four straight home games against a quality Massachusetts team coached by two former Wildcat players, head coach Angela McMahon (’04) and associate head coach Sarah Albrecht (’06).
Baseball
NU’s baseball team will be on the road Friday-Tuesday, March 16-20, for the spring break trip to Winter Haven, Fla.
They open their home schedule with a three-game series against Nebraska, March 30- April 1.
