Thousands of ComEd customers are without power in Evanston this morning.

The outages were first reported shortly after 9 a.m. and have also affected traffic signals along Chicago Avenue.

More than 2,000 customers are affected in an area bounded by Ridge and Chicago avenues and Main Street and South Boulevard.

More than 1,500 additional customers are affected in the area north of South Boulevard and east of Chicago Avenue.

ComEd says it hopes to have power restored to most of the affected customerrs by about 11:15 a.m.,, but says it may be early afternoon before the rest of the customers are back on line.

There are also additional scattered outages affecting smaller numbers of customers in other parts of town.

Update 11:55 a.m.: Reportedly all the customers who lost power this morning now have had their service restored. ComEd hasn’t yet determined the cause of the outage.
