Three held in bank heist

The FBI has arrested three suspects in the robbery Friday of an Evanston bank.

The Chicago Tribune reports that three men armed with handguns burst into the Fifth Third Bank branch at 2440 Main St. about 4 p.m., forced customers and employees to the floor and stuffed cash from several teller drawers into a backpack.

FBI agents, investigating similar heists Monday at banks in Oak Lawn and Skokie, were watching a home near 73rd and May Streets on Chicago’s south side when a car with the three suspects pulled up about 6 p.m.

When officers approached the vehicle, the driver ended up crashing it into several parked cars before the men could be taken into custody.

Officials say they found evidence at the scene that may link the men to the Evanston holdup.
