Evanston police say three Chicago men were seriously injured when their car was involved in a single-vehicle accident early this morning in the 300 block of Sheridan Road.

Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says the driver of the car is under arrest pending an investigation for driving under the influence.

Dugan says the 28-year-old driver suffered broken bones in the leg in the 3:38 a.m. accident and was undergoing surgery this morning at St. Francis Hospital.

A 29-year-old passenger is suffering from a broken leg bone, while a 28 year old passenger, considered the most seriously injured, has bleeding on the brain.

The major crash team responded to the scene due to the brain injury, and Dugan says they will probably have the southbound lanes of Sheridan Road blocked off until about 11 a.m.
