Three stabbed in fight at hotel party

Police say a fight among party-goers at a downtown Evanston hotel early Monday morning left several people injured.

Police Commander Tom Guenther says three men sustained non-life-threatening stab wounds and at least two others were roughed up in the melee that broke out after they’d rented rooms on the 12th floor of the Best Western University Plaza Hotel, 1501 Sherman Ave., to hold a party.

The victims ranged in age from 18 to 28 years old, and Guenther says they were known to each other and familiar to police.

He says detectives still aren’t sure exactly what led to the disturbance, which broke out about 4 a.m., because the victims have not been very forthcoming about what happened. The investigation is continuing.

The victims reportedly were stabbed with a small pocket knife. One was cut on the cheek, another on the hand and a third in the lower back. All were treated and released.

Police say they found some marijuana in one of the rooms and have charged Abe Brown, 22, of 9058 N. Bennett in Skokie, a DJ hired to perform at the event, with possession of cannabis.
