Evanston homeowners born in or before 1947 are eligible for at least one of two property tax benefits — but they’ve got less than a month to apply for them.

Township Assessor Bonnie Wilson says renewal forms for the senior citizen assessment freeze and the senior exemption were sent out by county officials last Friday and need to be returned by Feb. 6.

Anyone born in 1947 or before who lived in their property as of Jan. 1 last year is eligible for the senior exemption. To also qualify for the senior assessment freeze the homeowners’ total household income must be $55,000 or less.

First time applicantsmust provide a recent tax bill and a State ID or drivers license with the correct address. Forms are available at the township office and online.

Wilson says her office can help residents fill out the forms, and that those seeking help should call the office at 847-332-2465 to make an appointment.
