Downtown Evanston is expanding its chilly-weather Hygge Fest to the entire month of February this year.
Hygge, pronounced “hue-gah,” is a Danish expression indicating an attitude towards life that emphasizes finding joy in everyday moments and celebrates coziness, warmth, family and mindfulness.
Starting Sunday local businesses will host a range of special in-store events that encourage attendees to incorporate more coziness, warmth and mindfulness in their lives.
From restorative yoga to floral bouquet design and candle-making classes to pie-making contests and community drum circles, there is something for everyone to experience hygge downtown, says Downtown Evanston Executive Dirctor Annie Coakley.
New this year, there is pasta-making at La Macchina Ristorante, cocktail-making at Whiskey Thief, a Pajama Brunch and Calligraphy & Cocktail event at Five & Dime, Tablescapes & Tea at Saville Flowers, Gnome Felt-Needling at Albion Evanston, Tarot Readings at Patisserie Coralie, and a community Open Mic Jam and Community Drum Circle at a recently vacated storefront.
“Due to the popularity of the workshops offered last year—most of them sold out—we extended Hygge Fest into a month long event to provide more opportunities to connect with people, learn new skills, and create an overall positive experience in downtown Evanston,” Coakley says.
“As February is typically a slow month, Hygge Fest injects new energy into the business community and gets people out of their homes to enjoy fun, social and community-building activities.”
