Evanston police think the same vandals who cut tires on 10 vehicles Friday night on Orrington, Sherman, and Colfax,  have now turned their destructive sights onto phone and cable wires.

Sunday night they received reports of 10 more cars with punctured tires and seven incidents of phone and cable wires cut.

The wire cuttings occurred at businesses and residences in the 600 block of Oakton Street, the 500 block of Dempster Street, the 300 block of Church Street, the 1100 and 1600 blocks of Forest Avenue, the 1600 block of Judson Avenue, and the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue.

Cars with punctured tires were located in the 300-400 blocks of Davis Street, the 300 block of Church Street, and the 1200 block of Judson Avenue.

Commander Jay Parrott said detectives investigating the incidents note similarities in the locations and methods of operation that suggest the same person or groups of persons are responsible for all the damage.

He said the acts appear to be random in nature, as no commonality has become apparent among the victims.

If anyone has any information that might help police determine who is doing the damage, they should contact the department by phone at (847) 866-5000 or by text at 274637. If you witness vandalism in progress, you should call 911.
