Photo contest seeks Evanston images

The third annual Faces of Evanston photography contest, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Evanston, is now underway.

The contest seeks photos of Evanston’s people, places and things. Last year’s entrants included visitors from Spain as well as local residents and businesspersons.

Photographers can enter their photos, and photo fans can vote for their favorites, at the contest web site, facesofevanston.com.

Native American 'Jewelry Trading Days' Coming to Mitchell Museum

The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian will host its seventh annual “Native American Jewelry Trading Days” July 21–22 for collectors looking to buy or sell authentic Native American jewelry.

Twenty percent of the sale proceeds will benefit the Mitchell Museum, 3001 Central St.. (at Central Park Avenue) in northwest Evanston, where museum employees and volunteers will be staffing the sale Saturday, July 21, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, July 22, noon to 4 p.m.

Shower of Stoles Project Comes to Evanston

Grace Lutheran Church of Evanston is proud to present the Shower of Stoles Project on Saturday, June 9th from 6-8 p.m.  The project will feature dozens of liturgical stoles given by persons in ministry who face the on-going struggle for justice in the church for those who are gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgendered.  The project is considered to be broadly eccumenical with stoles from as many as 26 denominations from around the globe.  Grace Lutheran Church is a Reconciling in Christ church which extends a welcome to all people in the full participation of church life regardless of sexual orientation and sexual identity.  Grace is located at 1430 South Blvd.
