Safety tour to visit last farmers' market

The City of Evanston's very last Farmers' Market of the season on Saturday, Nov. 3, will feature the Underwriters Laboratories National Safety Tour kick-off from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Participants will enjoy fun safety games designed for all ages, play the UL "Look for the Mark Challenge," try their hand at "PASSMaster," a fire extinguisher demonstration game, and interact with cool technology.

Additionally, participants can watch actual safety testing demonstrations and help children work their way through our "Fire Escape Obstacle Course."

Senior crime specialist gets award

The Office of the Illinois Attorney General has honored Evanston's civilian Senior Service Officer Amanda Jones for over eight years of commitment and dedication to preventing crimes against seniors.

Jones, the liaison between the Evanston Police Department and the Evanston community, gives educational and training workshops to senior residents and at the Evanston Citizen Police Academy.

Signals may be out a while

Traffic signals at Dempster Street and Dodge Avenue in Evanston have been out of service since Thursday morning, when a truck knocked over the traffic signal control box.

Officials in the city's transportation division are working to find a replacement controller and cabinet for the intersection, but say it may be sometime next week before the signals are up and running again.

In the meantime the busy intersection is being controlled with stop signs.

For further information, contact the Division of Transportation, (847) 866-2924.
