Traffic beef leads to shooting on Howard

Evanston police say a 45-year-old Chicago man was shot in the parking lot of the Pizza Hut restaurant on Howard Street at Ridge Avenue Wednesday night.

The victim told police he'd pulled into the restaurant parking lot about 8:50 p.m. when a man he recognized from a traffic dispute he'd had earlier in the day on the Chicago side of Howard knocked on his car window.

As he opened the car door, the victim said, the man fired two shots, one of which struck him in the arm.

The victim's girlfriend, who was in the car with him, wasn't hurt and drove him to St. Francis Hospital, where he was treated for his injury, which police said was not life-threatening.

The suspect, who fled south into Chicago on foot, is described as a male black with a goatee, about 25 years old, dark complexion, wearing a black skull cap and black fleece jacket.

Police say they have no one in custody yet as the investigation continues.
