A 19-year-old Evanston man is facing unlawful use of a weapon by a felon charges after a traffic stop on Chicago Avenue near Juneway Terrace.

Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says that when officers stopped a car there for minor traffic violations Thursday evening abou 7:55 p.m. a rear seat passenger ran from the car and the driver then drove off.

Officers chased the passenger, Dugan says, and caught him in the 200 block of Callan Avenue. They also found a loaded Bryco 9mm handgun officers say the passenger discarded as he ran in the rear yard of a residence in the 600 block of Mulford Street.

The vehicle that fled has not been located, but Dugan says they’ve identified the driver who they’re actively looking for.       

Rayshawn L. Taylor, of 1929 Jackson Ave., has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, due to a previous conviction for reckless discharge of a firearm that occurred in 2013.

  1. Flawed justice system

    Isn't he the offender from the Skokie carnival shooting a couple years back? Already out on the streets with a gun? That makes no sense. Great job EPD!
