Traffic stop yields DUI, weapons arrests

Two women were arrested n connection with a single incident on Dempster Street between 10 p.m. and midnight last night. One was for driving under the influence; the other for unlawful use of a weapon. These among stories in today’s daily crime bulletin from Evanston police.

According to EPD Cmdr. Ryan Glew, a white 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier was driven by Athera Hernandez, 34, of 1923 Asbury Ave., who was charged with driving under the influence. She was stopped by Evanston police near the intersection of Chicago Avenue and Dempster Street.

A passenger in her car was Lisa S. Mosley, 40, of 1749 Hartrey Ave. Officers discovered a stun gun in Mosley’s pocket, which she said she uses for protection, Glew reported. Mosley was charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

Lisa S. Mosley, 40, of 1749 Hartrey Ave., was arrested at 1319 Chicago Ave. at 10:35 p.m. and charged with unlawful use of a weapon, immediately accessible. She is due in court on Jan. 18 at 10:30 a.m.

Traffic

Chicago at Dempster

Athera V. Hernandez, 34, of 1923 Asbury Ave., was arrested at Chicago Avenue and Dempster Street at 11 p.m. yesterday and charged with driving under the influence. She is due in court on Jan. 8 at 10:30 a.m.

Dempster at Asbury

Senad Dzaferovic, 21, of 3831 W. Chase Ave., Lincolnwood, was arrested at Dempster Street and Asbury Avenue at 12:41 p.m. yesterday and charged with a traffic violation. He is due in court on Jan. 11 at 9 a.m.

9550 Lincolnwood

James M. Evans, 61, of 1917 Emerson St., was arrested at 9550 Lincolnwood Dr., Skokie, at 11:58 a.m. Tuesday and charged with a traffic violation. He is due in court on Jan. 30 at 1:30 p.m.

414 Asbury

Laura Karen Garay, 29, of 5717 N. Maplewood Ave., Chicago, was arrested at 414 Asbury Ave. at 3:25 p.m. Monday and charged with a traffic violation. She is due in court on Jan. 30 at 1:30 p.m.

Ridge at Lake

Luis M. Nieves, 29, of 3329 W. Beach Ave., Chicago, was arrested at Ridge Avenue and Lake Street at 3:50 p.m. yesterday and charged with a traffic violation. He is due in court on Jan. 30 at 9 a.m.

Burglary

Ridge at Grove

A burglar broke the passenger side window of a 2014 Toyota near Ridge Avenue and Grove Street between 8:15 a.m. and 12:10 p.m. yesterday and stole documents

Criminal Damage

2200 Howard

The passenger side of a 2004 Toyota in a business parking lot in the 2200 block of Howard Street was defaced with red paint between 11 a.m. and 7:05 p.m. yesterday.

319 Dempster

Branden B. Eubanks, 25, of 7502 N. Hoyne Ave., Chicago, was arrested at 319 Dempster St. at 7 p.m. yesterday and charged with criminal damage to property. He is due in court on Jan. 18 at 10:30 a.m.

Drugs

1454 Elmwood

Andy J. Edwards, 32, of 2113 Darrow Ave., was arrested at Evanston police headquarters at 5:30 p.m. Friday and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Theft

1100 Dewey

Keys were accounted for in the theft of a 2013 Ford in the 1100 block of Dewey Avenue between 1 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. yesterday.

1700 Orrington

A laptop computer and a purse were stolen from the main Evanston Public Library between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. yesterday.

Incidents listed appear among the official reports of the Evanston Police Department. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt, which can only be determined by a court of law. Court appearances take place in Cook County 2nd District Circuit Court in Skokie.
