An alcohol awareness training ordinance recently passed by Evanston’s City Council goes into effect later this month.

Effective May 27, businesses licensed to sell liquor are required to have at least one one manager who has completed Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education and Training on site whenever alcohol is served or sold.

Online training is now available through the city website.

The six hour course will provide a three-year certification. It covers problems associated with alcohol consumption, characteristics and effects of alcohol, dram shop liability and responsibility, preventing underage sales and alcohol management strategies.
