Hundreds of people gathered in Evanston’s Fountain Square this evening to sing carols and watch as Mayor Lorraine Morton turned on the lights on the city’s holiday tree.

Santa waved to the crowd after arriving with Mayor Morton on a city fire truck.

Mayor Morton led youngsters in a holiday sing-along.

Matthew Wagner, 5, and his father, Mark, checked out the big power switch the mayor used to light the giant tree.

The tree lighting ceremony was sponsored by EvMark, the downtown business association.
