Evanston and Skokie fire crews were called to the 2700 block of Princeton Avenue in Evanston around 3 p.m. this afternoon to help extricate a person who’d been injured while trimming a large tree.

It took nearly 20 minutes from when Skokie Tower 16 arrived at the scene with its basket to get the victim out of the tree.

Update 4:30 p.m.: Fire Division Chief Paul Polep says the tree trimmer was 30 feet or more up the tree and roped in when a limb apparently broke and he fell and became lodged in between two branches.

Polep says the branches and ropes were cutting off his air supply and he wasn’t breathing by the time firefighters were able to get him out of the tree.

They began cardiopulmonary resuscitation and transported him to Evanston Hospital where his condition is unknown.
