A semi-trailer truck carrying storage containers struck both the CTA and Metra viaducts on Davis Street in Evanston about 5 p.m. today tying up rush hour traffic downtown.

The crash ripped open the storage containers and spilled some of the load of household goods onto the street.

Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says the driver of the truck, a 45-year-old man from Hoffman Estates, was cited for negligent driving.

The accident didn’t disrupt rail service on either line.
