Evanston police say two men have been charged with weapons violations after allegedly shooting at a car early Saturday morning.

Police Commander Tom Guenther says the incident apparently began at a party in the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue.

Witnesses told police one of the men later charged in the shooting incident entered the party and brandished a gun — which led to many of the guests quickly leaving the gathering.

Three people who left together in a car later said they saw the gunman and other men they knew pull up next to them in another car near the intersection of Emerson Street and Laurel Avenue about 1:50 a.m. and for no apparent reason fire two shots, which hit a door and the rear of the car.

The victims then drove to the Evanston Police Department to report the incident, while neighbors called police reporting they’d heard shots fired.

Police on patrol located the gunman’s car near Foster Street and Jackson Avenue and took four people in the vehicle into custody.

After reviewing the evidence, the State’s Attorney’s office filed felony charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm against Christian Q. McGee, 25, of 1934 Jackson Ave., and Terrance J. Gunn, 18, of 112 Custer St.

They’re scheduled to appear in Skokie district court on Feb. 24. The two other suspects were released without being charged.
