This will be the last holiday shopping season for two stores in the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue in downtown Evanston.

Signs are up at The Gap announcing closing of the store at 1706 Sherman in the former Varsity Theatre building. The closure will mean the closest outlet for the San Francisco-based men’s and women’s clothing chain will be at the Old Orchard shopping center.

And just down the block, at 1716 Sherman, the locally-owned women’s clothing shop CooCoo and Olive also has store closing signs out.

No word yet on what new uses may be planned for either retail space.
