Two girls charged in cell phone robbery

Two Chicago girls — ages 13 and 14 — were arrested by Evanston Police detectives today and charged with robbing a woman of her cell phone earlier this month.

Police say the two, accompanied by a third girl who is not yet in custody, followed the victim from the Main Street CTA station shortly after midnight on Jan. 10 and then grabbed the cell phone from her in the 800 block of Judson Avenue.

Evanston Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says CTA surveillance camera video made it possible for detectives to identify the suspects.

The two are scheduled to appear in juvenile court on the robbery charge.
