The state health department and county medical examiner now report a total of 23 deaths linked to Evanston long term care homes, up from 21 a week ago.
The count of total cases among patients and staff at the facilities issued by the IDPH has risen from 115 last week to 130 today.
The Grove of Evanston, at 500 Asbury Ave., has eight deaths, unchanged from last week. But its total case count increased from 17 to 26.
Three Crowns Park, at 2323 McDaniel Ave., has six deaths, unchanged from last week. Its total case count increased from 36 to 37.
Dobson Plaza, at 120 Dodge Ave., appears on the IDPH list for the first time this week with three cases and no deaths. But the medical examiner lists two COVID-related deaths there this week, of a 99-year-old woman on Tuesday and a 92-year-old woman on Thursday. The medical examiner also lists two additional deaths there on Friday, but with no cause of death yet listed.
Aperion Care, at 1300 Oak Ave., has had two deaths, unchanged from last week, and 19 cases, also unchanged from last week.
The Merion, at 1611 Chicago Ave., which the IDPH listed as having 12 cases and no deaths two weeks ago does not appear on the IDPH report again this week. The medical examiner has reported two COVID-19 related deaths there, but no new ones this week.
Symphony of Evanston at 820 Foster St., has one death and 12 cases listed by the IDPH, unchanged from last week.
Alden Estates of Evanston, 2520 Gross Point Road, has one death listed by the IDPH, unchanged from last week. Its case count increased from three to four this week.
The medical examiner does not list a death at Symphony or at Alden Estates, which may indicate the death was of a staff member who did not live in Evanston rather than a resident. All other deaths related to long term care homes in Evanston appear to be of residents rather than staff.
Greenwood Care, at 1406 Chicago Ave., is listed by IDPH as having eight cases, up from seven last week, and one death, unchanged from last week.
Three long term care facilities in Evanston have reported COVID-19 cases but no deaths.
Westminster Place, at 3200 Grant St., is listed by IDPH as having 11 cases, unchanged from a week ago. But on its Facebook page, Westminster Place reports having had 15 total cases affecting 14 employees and one resident, with one employee added to the list since last week.
Albany Care, at 901 Maple Ave., is listed by IDPH as having six cases, unchanged from last week.
The Mather, at 425 Davis St., has held steady at four cases for the past four weeks, according to the IDPH.
For the second week in a row the IDPH has made changes in the way it counts COVID-19 cases at long term care facilities.
Last week it removed cases that did not have laboratory confirmation. Such cases were common early in the pandemic when only very limited testing was available. That cut 28 cases from the count in Evanston
This week it limited its report to facilities that have had a new case within the past 28 days. That change does not appear to have had any affect on the Evanston numbers from IDPH this week, indicating that all the facilities IDPH lists here have had at least one additional case in the last four weeks.
In Illinois about 14% of COVID-19 cases and 50% of all COVID-19 deaths have occurred in long term care facilities.
Based on reports from the medical examiner and IDPH, it appears that here in Evanston long term care facility deaths represent about 20% of COVID-19 cases and 64% of total COVID-19 deaths.
