Evanston health officials reported two new COVID-19 cases among city residents today, while across Illinois 1,319 more people were diagnosed with the disease.

In an unusual event for the pandemic only one new death was reported statewide, that of a Cumberland County woman in her 90s.

Evanston’s total case count now stands at 908 and the state’s at 195,399. Evanston has averaged 5.4 cases each day over the past seven days.

Chicago reported 253 more cases today for a total of 64,129 and suburban Cook County reported 248 new cases for a total of 47,819.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported results of 32,353 coronavirus tests today, that’s far below the seven-day average of 42,792 tests and today’s statewide positive rate was 4.1%, matching the seven-day average rate.

The IDPH reported test results for 135 Evanston residents today and found three positive cases, all in south Evanston, for a positive rate of 2.2%
