Evanston police say two men were struck by bullets after someone driving by in a car opened fire on them near the intersection of Custer Avenue and Brummel Street shortly after 2 p.m. today.

Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says both men were taken to St. Francis Hospital. An 18-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the knee, a 20-year-old was just grazed by a bullet. Both victims are Evanston residents.

Dugan says that detectives have some good leads they’re working on in the case — including images from a surveillance camera on the corner. He says the shooting appears to be gang-related.

Police are asking that anyone with information contact the detective bureau at 847-866-5040. Information can be sent anonymously through TEXT-A-TIP by texting to CRIMES (274637) and then EPD TIP with the information.
