Evanston Police are investigating an incident in which two men were shot early this afternoon near the intersection of Payne Street and Dewey Avenue.

Deputy Police Chief Joseph Dugan says both victims were found near the scene of the shooting and were transported by Fire Department paramedics to Evanston Hospital

Police say both victims are 35 years old. One suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, the other a gunshot wound to the hip. The injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

Police spokesman Perry Polinski says the victims told officers they were attacked by two men wearing dark clothing that obscured their faces. The assailants reportedly ran northbound after the shooting and got into a dark car and drove off.

The shooting happened about 12:30 p.m.
