Two wounded in pre-dawn shooting on Howard

A drive-by shooting on Howard Street in Evanston about 3:50 this morning left two men being treated for gunshot wounds at St. Francis Hospital.

Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says police responding to calls of shots fired near Howard and Dodge Avenue located several spent shell casings in the intersection — but no victims.

But then officials at St. Francis Hospital called to report that two gunshot victims had come into the emergency room.

Police say a preliminary investigation indicates that the victims were riding in a car with two other people. They'd just left a club in Chicago and were traveling westbound on Howard approaching Dodge when a vehicle pulled up alongside and fired several gunshots into their car, before fleeing southbound into Chicago on California Avenue.

One victim, a 22-year-old Round Lake Beach man, was struck in the arm and back and is in good condition.  The second victim, a 23-year-old Waukegan man, was hit in the head and groin area and is in serious but stable condition.  Both victims' injuries are said to be non-life threatening.

Detectives are investigating the incident and ask that anyone with information contact the detective bureau at 847-866-5040. Information can be sent anonymously through TEXT-A-TIP by texting to CRIMES (274637) and then EPD TIP with the information.
