Uncle Sam, and all the other participants in Sunday’s Evanston Fourth of July parade are hoping for a big turnout of spectators along the Central Street route of the 89th annual edition of the Independence Day celebration.

The parade starts a 2 p.m. at Central Park Avenue and marches east to Ashland Avenue.

The day’s events, sponsored by Evanston Fourth of July Association, start at 8 a.m. with tennis and playground sports competitions at several locations around town.

Then in the evening there’ll be a musical performance at Dawes Park, Sheridan Road at Church Street, from 7:30 to 9 p.m., followed by the traditional fireworks display that can be seen from most lakefront parks and beaches.
