Up to a foot of snow expected today

Snow is falling across Evanston this morning and the National Weather Service says we could get 8 to 12 inches by the time the storm tapers off late tonight.

City officials say no parking restrictions are in effect for the storm so far, but they informally suggest that drivers try to follow the snow emergency parking pattern by not parking on the odd-numbered sides of side streets today to make it easier for plows to clear them.

Perhaps as much as two inches of snow have fallen in the city so far, and the weather service says the snowfall rate is expected to pick up during the afternoon and early evening to as much as an inch per hour.
