Evanston Fire Chief Brian Scott has announced the promotion of Captain Glenn Vanek to Division Chief of Training and Special Operations.

Vanek’s primary responsibilities will focus on leading the department’s training programs as well as leading the department’s highly specialized water, hazardous materials and technical rescue teams.

Vanek has been with the Fire Department for 23 years, the last 13 years as captain.

Vanek earned his bachelor’s degree in Fire Science Management from Southern Illinois University. He is also certified through the Office of the State Fire Marshal as a chief fire officer and fire safety officer.

In addition to his departmental responsibilities, Vanek is the Team Leader and Evanston Fire Department Coordinator for the MABAS Division 3 Hazardous Material Response Team.
