The vacant Church Street storefront that once housed Andy’s Frozen Custard may soon have new life as a vegetarian restaurant called Elephant + Vine.

The new business from C.D. Young, who also runs the Spirit Elephant restaurant at 924 Green Bay Road in Winnetka, will seek approval from Evanston’s Design and Project Review Committee on Wednesday.

The Elephant + Vine will have seats for about two dozen people and will feature a variety of vegetarian sandwiches and bowls along with “wings” made from cauliflower and regular or sweet potato fries.

The restaurant is expected to have six to eight employees.

Spirit Elephant opened in January 2020 and was reviewed by Steve Dolinsky, who said it has “a creative menu with several delicious options, and you’ll never miss the meat.”
