Part of the north wall of the Suds Car Wash on Green Bay Road collapsed this afternoon.
Evanston Fire crews were sent to the scene shortly before 2 p.m. and found that the north wall of the building was separating from the roof and part of it had collapsed.
Fire officials say Suds was immediately evacuated as was the car sales dealership just north of the car wash.
City Building Division personnel and a structural engineer along with fire officials evaluated the damage to the structure, while ComEd and Nicor personnel evaluated the utilities to ensure the continuance of service.
A portion of the southbound lane of Green Bay Road at Noyes Street will be closed to traffic. Motorists are asked to use caution while driving in the area.
It’s not yet known when repairs will be completed so the business can reopen.
