One of the more popular tours in Evanston is that of the facility that treats the water we drink, but you have to sign up for it quickly before space runs out.
The city just announced that two tours will be conducted on Saturday, May 13, of the facility, which is located just north of the Northwestern University campus at 555 Lincoln St.
The first tour will be given from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for residents 15 years and older. A second “child friendly” tour will follow from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for residents with children ages 6 years or older.
Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All adults are required to provide photo identification upon arrival.
Water facility tours are limited to the first 30 people that sign up for each group, and all must be Evanston residents. To register, call (847) 448-8198.
All participants must provide their name, address, phone number, and the names of all the individuals who will be attending in their group. Walk-in registration will not be available.
Parking will be available at the facility via the driveway located on the north side of Lincoln Street, between the two buildings. You should arrive at the facility 20 minutes before the tour start time, as admittance to the facility will not be permitted once the tours have started.
The May tour has been timed to coincide with National Drinking Water Week, which is May 7-13.
