Contractors working on the Davis Street improvement project in downtown Evanston broke a water main at Davis and Chicago Avenue around 5:15 p.m. today.

City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz says water service is out for properties on Davis between Hinman and Orrington Avenues and a half block south of Davis on Chicago Avenue. That includes restaurants in the area and the North Shore Residence.

Bobkiewicz says Utilities Department workers are on the scene beginning repairs but there’s no estimate yet on when water service will be restored to the properties involved.

Update 9 p.m.: City officials now say they expect water service to be restored within a half hour.
