Evanston’s water division will replace the 6-inch diameter water main that goes to the fire hydrant in front of Dixie Kitchen at 825 Church St. this week in a project starting Tuesday and continuing through Friday.

This section of water main broke twice earlier this year, requiring water service interruptions to complete emergency repairs.

A four-hour water service interruption to all properties on Church Street between Benson and Sherman will be required Thursday to complete the replacement.

While the water main is shut off, crews will also disconnect two abandoned water services that are within the same shut down area.

To minimize disruption to the affected businesses the repair work will be done in the early morning hours.

To provide a safe work zone for the crews completing this work it will be necessary to prohibit parking on both sides of the street within the 800 block of Church, between 5:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and traffic will be reduced to one, west bound lane while the crews are working.

Parking and normal two-lane traffic will be made available during the evening hours.

The complete work schedule is available online.
